Why: A recent StatsCan study stated that over $8 billion in Canadian consumer dollars went to the U.S. in 2012 alone. Every dollar spent outside of our local communities affects our local economies, local employment and specifically our local businesses, which are crucial to sustaining thriving neighbourhoods.
Specifically sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, Shop The Neighbourhood is a campaign to raise awareness among Canadians that their dollars have a greater impact in their communities when spent locally and to provide an event encouraging them to make local purchases leading up to the crucial holiday season.
About Shop The Neighbourhood™
Shop The Neighbourhood is a Yellow Pages initiative to encourage local shopping and support for small businesses. Taking place during the busiest shopping season of the year, Shop The Neighbourhood raises awareness of the large-scale push from retailers both online and across the border which moves dollars away from the small businesses which directly impacts the health of our neighbourhoods and our communities. On Saturday, November 29, people will be encouraged to make a local purchase in support of businesses across Canada and take advantage of exclusive event day deals and savings at local businesses, hosted both online and on the YP and YP ShopWise mobile apps.
