NICOSIA (dpa-AFX) - Cyprus consumer prices declined at a faster pace in June than in the previous month, figures from the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus showed Thursday.
The consumer price index dropped 2.4 percent year-over-year in June, following a 2.0 percent decrease in May. In April, prices had fallen 2.1 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages dropped 2.74 percent annually in June following 0.15 percent rise in May. Utility costs plunged 9.17 percent in June, faster than a 9.08 percent decline in May. At the same time, a fall in costs of transportation eased to 2.89 percent from 4.50 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined 0.16 percent in June, as decreases in the prices of certain fresh fruit and electricity offset increases in costs of air fares and petroleum products.
In the January to June period, consumer prices dipped 1.9 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.
