WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - MDU Resources Group, Inc. (MDU) reported a net loss for the second quarter of $229.8 million or $1.18 per share, compared to net income of $53.9 million or $0.28 per share for the year-ago quarter.
Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the second quarter were $29.1 million or $0.15 per share, compared to $34.1 million or $0.18 per share in the prior year quarter.
Operating revenues for the second quarter rose to $986.2 million from $952.5 million a year ago.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.17 per share on revenue of $1.08 billion for the second quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company lowered its 2015 adjusted earnings guidance to a range of $0.85 to $1.00 per share from its previous guidance of $1.05 to $1.20 per share. The company now expects a loss of $1.90 to $2.05 per share, compared to its earlier guidance of a loss of $0.65 to $0.80 per share.
Analysts currently expect the company to earn $1.04 per share for the full year 2015.
