MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - BayWa AG (BYWG), a German wholesaler and retailer of industrial and agricultural goods, reported Thursday that its first-quarter earnings before interest and tax or EBIT was a loss of 12.4 million euros, wider than last year's 3.3 million euros. The results reflected a very difficult market environment for agricultural produce.
Agriculture Segment posted EBIT loss of 0.5 million euros, compared to profit last year. Energy Segment's EBIT increased significantly, while Building Materials Segment posted a narrower EBIT loss.
Revenues edged up to 3.5 billion euros from 3.4 billion euros a year ago.
