WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - The Brewer's Association (BA), the Colorado-based craft brewers trade association, has launched a crowd-funding to raise $213 billion to takeover beer behemoth Anheuser-Busch InBev.
The campaign called 'Take Craft Back' aims to dissuade Anheuser-Busch InBev from wrongly promoting craft beers that they have acquired. BA also intends to 'to promote and protect America's small and independent craft brewers' through the campaign.
Anheuser-Busch InBev has acquired 10 craft brewers in the U.S. since 2011 in an attempt to tap into craft brewing beer market, which is the fastest-growing segment in the industry.
'America's independent craft breweries turned the beer industry upside down. That's why Anheuser-Busch InBev and its Big Beer cronies are buying us up left and right. Taking our independence-and your freedom of choice-away. But we won't be muscled out. We're launching the largest crowdfunding effort in history to turn the beer industry upside down again!' says the website of the campaign Take Craft Back.
'We can take a joke!' AB InBev U.S. communications VP Gemma Hart said in a statement about the Brewers Association campaign. 'While the fake money for this campaign 'piles' up, we will keep focusing our donations on giving back to communities across our country.'
