NAIROBI - (AFX) - Heineken NV said it has introduced its trademark lager beer in Kenya after entering into a joint venture with Kenya's East African Breweries Limited (EABL).
Under the terms of the deal, EABL will be Heineken's sole importer in Kenya and Uganda.
Heineken hopes to tap Kenya's growing demand for premium brands of alcoholic beverages, said Thom de Man, Heineken International's managing director for sub-Saharan Africa.
De Man added that there are no immediate plans to produce or bottle Heineken in Kenya.
In Africa, Heineken has similar joint venture deals in South Africa, Namibia, Ghana and Sierra Leone as well as ownership in brewery operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.
