Wiens Development Group, LLC is pleased to announce its
plans to build a 6,000 seat multi-purpose indoor event center at
Arista, a 200-acre mixed-use transit oriented development located on
the south side of Highway 36 between 108th and 120th Streets in
Broomfield. The complex, tentatively named the Broomfield Event
Center, will host more than 130 events per year, including concerts,
trade shows, rodeos and sporting events.
The event center is proposed to be owned by the Broomfield Urban Renewal Authority. Wiens Development Group, LLC will oversee the construction and provide day-to-day management of the complex. Wiens Development Group, LLC is a joint venture between Wiens Capital Management, LLC (owned by Tim Wiens) and Frew Management Group, LLC (owned by John Frew). Frew will have principal day-to-day responsibility for the project.
"Arista -- a beautiful new urban residential and retail community -- will be complemented by this world class event center, with both projects contributing greatly to the overall appeal of the Highway 36 corridor," said Wiens. "The event center will serve as a gateway for the entry to Broomfield, as well as a signature defining element for Arista as place and a destination. Additionally, the restaurants and retail shops on Arista Place, the neo-traditional main street, will enjoy synergies with the event center, which will anchor the east end of the block. With greater pedestrian activity will come heightened vitality -- one of the fundamental objectives for the Arista project."
"I am proud to partner with Tim Wiens, the City and County of Broomfield and the entire Arista team on this exciting project," said Frew. "The Broomfield Event Center will be a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue."
The City and County of Broomfield will be reviewing plans for the project over the next few months. Construction of the Broomfield Event Center is scheduled to begin in August 2005, with events beginning in late fall, 2006. Wiens Development Group, LLC is assembling a team of internationally recognized arena development specialists for the project, including Tim Romani and the ICON Venue Group, LLC (projects include the Pepsi Center, Invesco Field at Mile High, Home Depot Center, Kodak Theatre, the STAPLES Center); Dan Villiant and International Coliseum Company, LLC (projects include The Budweiser Center in Loveland, Colorado, Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, and arenas in Youngstown, Ohio, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Penticon, BC and Prescott Valley, Arizona); and Don Dethlefs of Sink Combs Dethlefs (projects include The Ritchie Center, CSU's Moby Arena, Fresno State's Save Mart Center, San Diego State's Moby Arena, Mandalay Bay Arena, Thomas & Mack Center and Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey).
"The event center will provide new entertainment opportunities for Broomfield residents and can provide a unique gathering space for large community and business events," said Broomfield Mayor Karen Stuart. "Its location on Highway 36 in the Arista project makes it uniquely accessible to RTD services and complementing land uses," added Stuart.
"Broomfield is excited that the development team has chosen Broomfield for this highly desirable facility," said George Di Ciero, Broomfield City and County Manager. "We are working closely with the development team as plans advance."
The Broomfield Event Center will comprise approximately 180,000 square feet of state-of-the-art, multi-purpose space and will become the "Gateway to Broomfield" located just off the Boulder Turnpike at Wadsworth/Highway 287. It will be designed to host a variety of events, including sporting events, amateur youth sports, family-oriented entertainment and community-sponsored events.
The Broomfield Event Center will be located within Arista, a 200-acre mixed-use development by the Wiens Real Estate Ventures, LLC. Arista will include 600,000 to 800,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 1,200 residential units, both for-sale and for-rent. The project will be predominantly urban in nature, complete with a neo-traditional "main street," called Arista Place. Retail shops will line the wide sidewalks of the village core, with residences or offices above. The project will also include an RTD bus rapid transit station on the site, and a future commuter rail stop is planned within walking distance.
The Arista team includes Lowe Enterprises as the development manager, Klipp as the project architect, Norris Dullea as the landscape architect, Taylor Kohrs as the general contractor, Martin/Martin as the civil engineer and Trammell Crow Company as the retail broker.
