ZURICH (AFX) - Lonza Group AG, the Swiss chemicals and pharma ingredients maker, said it is building a new research and development centre in Nansha, in the Chinese province of Guangzhou.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Lonza also announced a 23 mln sfr expansion of its production facilities for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) at its plant in Visp, Switzerland.
The scientists in the new Chinese centre will operate research laboratories and installations for process development and an analytical facility.
It will house 60 scientific personnel and will become operational in the first quarter 2006.
The existing R&D group, presently located in another part of Guangzhou, will relocate to the new centre in Nansha.
Lonza has been producing in China since 1999 and currently employs 380 people there.
