Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE, PCX:RAD) today announced
sales results for May.
Monthly Sales
For the five weeks ended June 3, 2006, same store sales increased 4.0 percent over the prior-year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 4.9 percent, while front-end same store sales were up 2.3 percent.
Total drugstore sales for the five-week period increased 3.4 percent to $1.680 billion compared to $1.624 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 63.8 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 95.3 percent of pharmacy sales.
First Quarter Sales
Same store sales for the quarter, beginning March 5, 2006 and ending June 3, 2006, increased 3.6 percent, consisting of a 4.4 percent pharmacy same store sales increase and a 2.1 percent increase in front-end same store sales.
Total drugstore sales for the quarter increased 2.7 percent to $4.315 billion from $4.200 billion in last year's first quarter. Prescription revenue accounted for 64.3 percent of total drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue was 95.2 percent of pharmacy sales.
Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of $17.3 billion. On June 3, 2006, Rite Aid operated 3,321 stores compared to 3,354 stores operated in the like period a year ago.
