FRANKFURT (AFX) - BASF AG said it will increase prices for its acrylic monomers from July 1 as far as existing contracts permit because of increasing raw material and energy costs.
It will increase acrylic monomer prices to 90 eur per metric tonne from 50 eur in the European/Africa/Middle East regions and by 0.06 usd per pound in the NAFTA zone.
In Asia, BASF already announced an 80 usd per metric tonne price increase effective June 21, 2006.
BASF said acrylic monomers are an important precursor in the production of superabsorbent polymers used in diapers and other hygienic products.
The company also said it will raise 2-ethylhexanoic acid prices by 50 eur per metric tonne in Europe and 70 usd per metric tonne in the NAFTA zone effective immediately unless existing contracts state otherwise.
