Dr. Joel Sklar, one of the original founders of Bank of Marin (NASDAQ:BMRC), which was formed in 1990, has been elected Chairman following a vote by the 14-member Board. He succeeds Judith Allen, who is retiring as Board Chairman after having served the past four years. Allen will continue as a member of the Board.
"I feel honored and privileged to have been elected to the position of Chairman," said Sklar. "In some ways, the position is daunting because of the legacy left by the first three Chairmen, including Bill Murray, Pat Hunt and now Judy. However, I'm confident that the bank is poised to perform as well as it has for the past 17 years, bringing value to our shareholders and the community at large."
"The responsibilities of serving as Chairman of Bank of Marin have been both challenging and rewarding," said Allen. "As a board, we oversaw the hire of Russ Colombo, our new President and CEO, the move of our management and administrative offices to Novato and the geographic expansion into Petaluma and San Francisco, among other accomplishments. However, when I was first elected Chair, I made a promise to myself and my family that I would retire after four years and I am fulfilling that promise today. I will be available to insure a seamless transition in leadership and I look forward to continuing to serve as a member of the board."
"Joel is a perfect candidate to keep Bank of Marin on its successful course," said Russell Colombo, President and CEO. "In addition to being an original founder, he has also served on the Executive Committee and was past Chairman of the Audit Committee. He has the respect of the board and Senior Management and we are all looking forward to working with Joel in his new role as Chairman of the Board."
Sklar serves as Chief of the Cardiology Division at Marin General Hospital and Medical Director of the Marin Heart Institute and is managing partner of Cardiovascular Associates of Marin and San Francisco. He is also a director of Marin Medical Practice Concepts and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California at San Francisco. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College and received his medical degree from University of California at San Diego. He and his wife Susan reside in Kentfield.
