TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Mitsubishi Motors Corp, Japan's fifth-largest car maker, aims to launch its i-MiEV all-electric compact car in 2009, a year ahead of schedule, company president Osamu Masuko said Friday.
The car will be powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery.
Masuko made the remarks during a TV program two days after he said at the Tokyo Motor Show that Mitsubishi had moved the market debut of the eco-friendly vehicle forward to before 2010.
Elsewhere in the industry, Carlos Ghosn, the head of Nissan Motor Co and Renault SA, said Wednesday that the Franco-Japanese auto group aims to start mass marketing of its electric vehicles in 2012.
