PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Renault's subsidiary Renault Samsung Motors is to begin production of the new Koleos 4X4 in South Korea on Monday, Le Monde reported.
The move marks Renault's foray into this sector of the market and the first time a vehicle manufactured in South Korea will be exported under the Renault brand, Le Monde said.
RSM president Jean-Marie Hurtinger said the vehicle was 'invented by Nissan, styled by Renault and built in South Korea - the direct result of the alliance between the French and Japanese manufacturers.'
The production facility in Pusan, in the south of the country, is equipped to manufacture 100,000 units per year, the paper reported. Almost half of these are destined for the local market.
Manufacturing of the European version of the vehicle is set to begin in February with the commercialisation process starting from May, Le Monde said. helen.beresford@thomson.com hem/jag COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
