Q-Tran, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality, power supply systems, transformers and components for the lighting industry, is celebrating its 15th Anniversary. The firm's CEO John Tremaine, an accomplished lighting designer born into a family of lighting entrepreneurs and innovators, founded Q-Tran in 1993.
Mr. Tremaine began his career with The Miller Company, a firm acquired in the 1930s by his great grandfather, who founded the National Electric Lamp Association (NELA Park), which became headquarters for General Electric Lamp Operations. Ownership of The Miller Company was passed-on through generations of the Tremaine family, until being sold to Hubbell Lighting in the 1980s.
Mr. Tremaine started his own lighting design practice in 1980, and in 1985 opened Primo, a high-tech lighting showroom based in South Norwalk, Connecticut, that offered a creative alternative to functional lighting. He began working with low voltage lighting and discovered flaws in power feeds to low voltage lighting fixtures.
Determined to resolve the challenges inherent in power supplies available at the time, Mr. Tremaine established Q-Tran in the basement of his showroom. He began to design and engineer a series of flexible remote transformers that eliminated noise and heat, significantly improving performance to enhance the quality of light.
Over the years, Gean Tremaine, VP of Sales and Marketing, and Jordan Nodelman, VP of Operations, would take their place by their father's side, helping to build Q-Tran as a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality, power supply systems, transformers and components.
Operating with the mantra "EnlightenedThinking®, Q-Tran pioneered innovative transformers that offered a high level of safety, reliability, performance and convenience for users of low voltage lighting, in both residential and commercial installations.
This year Q-Tran is introducing Q-Scape, a completely new Landscape Lighting power supply system designed to install and operate low voltage lighting with superior performance, safety and reliability. Q-Scape Direct Burial power supplies can be mounted both above- and in-ground with wire and compression fittings that are truly watertight and have multiple splice boxes for field wiring.
