PureDepth™, Inc. (OTC: PDEP), the creator of Multi-Layer Display™ (MLD) technology and a leader in new visualization experiences, today announced that another of its foundation patent applications has been granted in Japan. Patent P002JP, which was filed by PureDepth with an international priority date of August 19, 1999, broadly covers a process for interacting with data or images on a multi-level screen display using an input device, such as a mouse, keyboard, joystick, touchscreen, pen, stylus, voice activation system or more. The newly-allowed patent is the 83rd awarded to PureDepth. This patent has now been granted in 11 jurisdictions, including the U.S., New Zealand, Australia and select EU member states.
PureDepth's MLD displays contain two or more layers of display panels placed in front of one another in a single monitor allowing for 3-D effects. This latest patent allows people to move information and visual content from plane to plane, across the various display layers of an MLD, a process that can greatly improve the usability of software for interactions such as gaming, drawing, content creation, data analysis, information access, and more. By manipulating images between screens, developers can create visual links between objects on different planes or create an illusion of three dimensional movement. The patent covers usages with a wide array of displays, including OLEDs, LCDs, plasma screens, e-paper and more.
"The Japanese patent process is known for being extremely rigorous, with nearly half of patent applications rejected," said PureDepth CEO Andy Wood. "We're extremely pleased that Japan has joined so many other nations in recognizing the unique value our technology offers by allowing people to interact with three-dimensional content and has provided further protection to our current and future licensees."
"By giving us the ability to merge three-dimensional imagery containing real depth with interactive technology, this patent opens the door to a wealth of applications that will give developers and OEMs even more reasons to partner with PureDepth and drive adoption of our technology in Japan," said Yutaka Nagata, Vice President and General Manager for Japan. "This kind of interactivity will help us continue to grow our presence in the Pachinko/Pachislot and amusement gaming markets and expand into markets like mobile, automotive, medical, education and industrial, to name just a few. The 3-D market is booming, and only PureDepth is in a position to offer detailed, lifelike images without the need for special glasses and without side effects like headaches and dizziness."
PureDepth's latest patents demonstrate an ongoing rapid expansion of its technology and licensing developments. PureDepth's patented technologies provide brilliant alerts, high-contrast viewing, intense colors and real depth, revolutionizing the way people view data, images, video and other content.
Since its inception, PureDepth has established itself as an innovator in the 3-D and visualization space, and the company continues to expand its leading technology offerings by licensing and supporting its technology with partners, including OEMs and developers, to bring cutting-edge visual display products to market.
