SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/11 --
WHAT:
Acer has named the ten finalists for its Acer Video Book Report Contest. Teachers and their students chose a fiction or non-fiction book, and created a video-based report to share their favorite selection. Acer has named the five finalists in each category and the public can now place their votes to identify a winner from each. The two winners will receive a 21st Century Library Makeover from Acer, which includes ten Acer Iconia Tab W500 tablet PCs with Windows 7. The winners will also receive one educator conference pass and hotel accommodations for the 32nd Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) annual conference to be held in Austin, Texas, Feb. 6-10, 2012.
WHY:
Acer believes technology brings excitement and creativity to the classroom, and a video-based book report encourages imagination while still displaying the student's understanding of reading. This contest aims to combine traditional reading curriculum strategies with 21st Century skills to make book reports and reading more interactive, fun and engaging for young learners. It also provides an opportunity for educators to rethink the standard book report by producing videos that creatively illustrate the students' comprehension, along with teaching collaborative and critical thinking skills.
WHEN:
The deadline to submit votes is Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at 5 p.m. PDT.
