The first online chat room was developed in 1980. Since then, Chatrooms have been overhauled by social networking like Facebook, Twitter and texting as our main means of communication and interaction with each other. It has become apparent that these methods of communication are actually disengaging us from meaningful relationships. Talking, listening and truly engaging is becoming a lost art.
According to Harvard University, the number one predictor of happiness is close, intimate relationships, whether they are friendships, romantic or family ties. Simply put: the happiest and most fulfilled people have the healthiest relationships. Our greatest concern is that our children require interaction to develop socially and emotionally. How can they learn strong interpersonal skills, compassion and have a sense of community if they don't have the opportunity to observe the adults around them nurturing these critical skills and values?
It's time to turn the tide!
Calgary-based Heart, Heath & Home™, www.hearthealthandhome.com, is taking "Chatrooms" back to the living room. We see the lack of live heart-to-heart connections breaking down our most important relationships.
Melanie Hayden-Sparks, Heart, Health & Home™ Founder stated, "I understand that we are embracing technology to communicate, but people cannot thrive without human contact and the pendulum has swung too far towards technology. Technology is taking so much of our time that we don't have the time to really connect."
The Heart, Health & Home™ plan is to connect people by holding casual workshops known as in person Chatrooms that provide the opportunity for people to come together - in homes, clubs, schools and community centers to establish connections and to share and inspire solutions for some of life's everyday challenges. When we connect and talk about topics such as stress, childhood bullying, getting organized or finding some life balance, we rediscover the power of community, which serves as a key support system for families. Heart, Health & Home™ is taking a leading role by inspiring Canadians to bring these critical 'heart-to-heart' connections to fruition in communities across our country.
About Heart, Health & Home™
Heart, Health & Home™ is ultimately a philanthropic and purpose-driven company. We believe there's no greater success than coming together as communities to ensure we create a bright future for our children to inherit.
