Arrow Exterminators Provides Homeowners with a Pest Prevention To-Do List before They Head Out of Town
Homeowners heading out of town to their favorite summer destination often take care to make sure the homes they leave behind are properly lit, locked and protected from intruders. However, Arrow Exterminators, a local pest and termite control company, warns that homeowners should be equally concerned about those intruders who could make their way inside on four, six or eight legs, and cause significant damage in the process.
In an effort to help families avoid a variety of pest infestations while away from home and to help send those unexpected "pesty" houseguests packing this vacation season, Arrow Exterminators offers the following pest prevention to-do list:
- Remove or drain sources of standing water in the yard that could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, including birdbaths, kiddie pools and saucers of flowerpots. Additionally, clean out rain gutters to prevent water from standing in drains.
- Cut tree branches and other plants away from the home to keep insects, especially ants, from using them as a means of transportation inside.
- Discard garbage prior to leaving for vacation and be sure any last minute trash is placed in well-sealed garbage cans so that houseflies, which will travel up to 20 miles to get food, do not make your leftovers their next meal.
- Use airtight containers to store leftover food, especially sweets, in the pantry to prevent ant infestations. Also, pack snacks for the car or plane in airtight containers or bags to ensure ants do not travel with you on vacation.
- Seal clothes in large plastic bags within your suitcase and keep them sealed during your hotel stay to prevent beg bugs from hiding in them. When you return home, inspect and vacuum suitcases before bringing them inside and wash all clothing in hot water.
"With all the excitement and preparation of vacation on the mind, homeowners may neglect to protect their property from pests before they head out of town," said Shay Runion, Arrow Pest Expert. "However, by taking the necessary prevention steps and getting the help of experts with specialized training, homeowners can safeguard their property and be confident that they will not return home to any unwanted visitors."
