Touch screen All-in-One PC passes Microsoft's latest hardware certification program confirming Dialog's Multi-Touch ICs are ready for mass-market deployment
Dialog Semiconductor plc (FWB:DLG), a provider of highly integrated power management, audio, AC/DC and short-range wireless technologies, today announced its Multi-Touch Integrated Circuit (MTICTM) part number DA8901 has successfully passed the requirements for Windows 8.1 Certification. Dialog's MTIC is the world's first chip to support touch technology from FlatFrog targeting high volume consumer devices.
Dialog's MTICs are suitable for use in a full range of products from notebooks, tablets, 2-in-1 PCs and UltrabookTM to stationary and portable all-in-one PCs and monitors. In addition to being optimised for Microsoft Windows 8.1, MTIC is also able to support Google Android-based touch-enabled operating systems.
Unique to FlatFrog Touch is the ability to measure how hard the user touches the screen with up to 10 bits of pressure resolution. Using in-glass infrared light, the system can track multiple touches and gestures from a number of objects including gloved hands or a stylus. This provides a premium, true-touch user experience at performance levels which surpass the latest optical and capacitance-based solutions, creating new ways to interact with the touch operating system.
With FlatFrog Touch, sensors are located around the edges rather than across the surface of the screen so there is nothing to block light from the display. This results in superior image quality and maximises brightness with no colour distortion, while removing the need for expensive specialised production processes. Unlike traditional optical-based touch systems, all the sensor electronics are located under the display enabling the cover glass to reach to the very edges of the screen providing beautiful bezel-free industrial designs and seamless user interaction.
Mark Tyndall, VP Corporate Development and Strategy at Dialog Semiconductor commented, 'Achieving Microsoft Windows 8.1 certification is recognised by the industry as a critical requirement for multi-touch PCs. Reaching this milestone gives our customers the confidence for mass-market adoption of MTIC in PC products launching in the first half of 2014.'
DA8901 comes in a 5.7 x 5.0mm QFN package and its small footprint makes it ideal for mounting alongside the infrared LED emitter and receiver components on a narrow, low-cost printed circuit board that enables optimal industrial design. This is also ideal for Windows 8.1 PCs, tablets and Ultrabooks.
Commercial samples of DA8901 are available now.
