Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta and Orange Bowl Broadcasts Utilized New Technologies
DTS, Inc announced today that its high performance professional broadcast audio technologies were used to help create Fox Sport's audio mix for their BCS broadcast line-up which included the Sugar Bowl on January 1st, Cotton Bowl on January 2nd, Fiesta Bowl on January 4th and the Orange Bowl on January 5th. Both the DTS Neural Surround™ Upmix and DTS Neural Technologies Mono2Stereo 4-channel synthesizer were implemented on-site to help create the surround sound mix.
"Surround audio is key to delivering the energy and excitement of the games to college football fans at home. The DTS solutions gave me the creative freedom to generate an exciting surround mix without compromising the dialog intelligibility from the commentators," says Fred Aldous, Sr. audio mixer, FOX Sports. "The new DTS mono to stereo synthesizer allows me to capture audio details from the action on the field and blend it naturally with the spacious stadium sounds of the game."
The DTS Neural Surround Upmix technology is designed to upmix any stereo source and provide a very natural and stable surround sound image. The mono2stereo synthesizers can take 4 separate mono feeds and spread the signal for each to create a stereo image that is full, stable and most importantly does not drown out the announcer in the center channel.
Various DTS broadcast software technologies such as the Mono2Stereo synthesizer, the award winning iLM8 loudness meter, DTS Neural Loudness Control, DTS Neural MultiMerge, and the DTS Neural Surround Upmix are licensed to hardware partner DaySequerra and Harris Corporation for its advanced audio processing platform.
