Government bodies throughout Latin America are investing heavily in satellite services with the region experiencing a major boom over the past couple of years due to a developing economy and ahead of the forthcoming major sporting events taking place in Brazil.
GlobalSat, one of Mexico's largest satellite service providers, has recently partnered with Gilat to improve the advancement of public access to communication, whether it be internet access for schools based in rural locations or the general public gaining access to government services. O3b Networks, another satellite service provider, has also seen major developments take place with projects across a number of countries in Latin America improving connectivity for hundreds of thousands of people and businesses.
VSAT Latin America, taking place from 2- 3 July 2013 in São Paulo, Brazil, will be taking a close look at government backed satellite initiatives across the region with speakers including Eric Cantaño Araiza, CEO at GlobalSat, who will be talking about their recent projects in Mexico and how these have contributed to the growth of the company. Omar Trujillo, VP Latin America Africa at O3b Networks, will also be speaking on breaking the digital divide using satellite and delivering LTE/3G backhaul via satellite.
Also speaking on the subject of cellular backhaul is Pablo Andres Recalt, Local Manager of Business Unit Network Connectivity at Telespazio Argentina, and Leonardo Gil, Product Engineering Manager at Telespazio Brazil. Taking part in a panel discussion these representatives will debate whether C band or Ku band are most suitable for backhaul, where the role is for VSAT in hybrid networks and integrated systems and whether VSAT will ever be anything but a last resort for GSM backhaul. Cellular backhaul is one of the key drivers of satellite capacity in the Latam region, with Peru, Brazil and Colombia demanding the lions share due to their geographically challenged terrestrial infrastructure and large wide-spread populations. VSAT Latin America will attract speakers from across the Latin America region to discuss these issues, with representatives from Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Bolivia, among others.
