The latest version of open source Business Intelligence
(BI) software OpenI 1.1 is available for immediate download. OpenI
(pronounced "open-eye") provides a complete out-of-the-box BI
application that allows end users to analyze data without the need to
write code or purchase expensive proprietary software.
"The process of transforming data and building intelligence should be open, transparent, and understandable," said Sandeep Giri, OpenI.org project lead. "The beauty of OpenI is that with one download you can start building OLAP cubes from your existing data and publish interactive analyses on the web. There is no code to be written, and you don't need to purchase costly software."
The OpenI Project was unveiled in July when Loyalty Matrix, Inc., a Software-as-a-Service company providing Customer Intelligence, published the source code for select components of their proprietary software to engage the open-source community as a development partner. "The OpenI project democratizes Business Intelligence," said Michael Fassnacht, President and CEO of Loyalty Matrix. "This takes it out of the hands of a few companies with big budgets and enables us to make Customer Intelligence accessible to everyone."
Based on J2EE, OpenI provides a web interface for building and publishing interactive reports from XMLA-compliant OLAP data sources. OpenI encompass a proven code base that Loyalty Matrix developed over four years while deploying customer intelligence solutions for more than 20 Fortune 500 companies. This week OpenI ranked 65th out of more than 110,000 projects on Sourceforge.net, the world's largest open source collaborative development website.
OpenI 1.1 includes the open source OLAP engine Mondrian, which means users do not need to have a separate OLAP server like Microsoft Analysis Services to begin using the software. To download the code or see a demonstration, visit www.openi.org.
