SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. today announced its membership within the newly formed Triple Play Alliance (TPA). The TPA is an independent association of worldwide leading network equipment vendors, software vendors and service providers with the common goal to accelerate the world-wide adoption of triple play technology in carrier and enterprise networks.
To achieve this, the TPA has built the Triple Play Lab, a best-of-breed interoperability test and demonstration lab near Munich, Germany. The lab, designed to serve as an international competence center for triple play technology, allows TPA members to test and demonstrate triple play scenarios in a real-world environment. The Triple Play Lab will host a media open house on April 25, 2006 and will be officially inaugurated with a public tour on April 26, 2006. "It is our philosophy to work closely with influential organizations all over the globe such as the Triple Play Alliance to help accelerate the adoption of converged triple play networks based on Ethernet technology," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president of marketing for Extreme Networks. "The Triple Play Alliance helps dispel the myths about triple play by providing carriers a realistic view of the technology, the requirements and the business benefits, thus helping them to build a reliable infrastructure for delivering voice, video and data."
Extreme Networks is providing the core switching solution in the Triple Play Lab: next-generation Multidimensional Ethernet performance with superior quality of service capabilities, carrier-grade availability and resiliency, and scalability. Products on display are: BlackDiamond(R) 12804R, Summit(R) X450, Summit 400 with PoE, Summit 200, and Summit WM for wireless access. Furthermore Extreme Networks' Sentriant(TM) Virtual Security Resource (VSR) is deployed to enforce network security at gigabit speeds and to help counter day zero attacks without slowing down network performance.
The nine members of the TPA act together to promote deployment of triple play networks by helping both carrier and enterprise customers to gain a better understanding of the underlying technologies, interoperability and security requirements, and business issues.
