MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Italy's new car registrations rose 9.56 pct to 205,442 in April, from 187,509 in the same month a year earlier, said the ministry for transport.
In the first four months, new car registrations were up 5.43 pct to 940,046, from 891,614 a year earlier, the ministry said.
In April, Fiat brand registrations rose 18.13 pct to 51,772, giving it a market share of 25.20 pct, against 23.37 a year earlier, it said.
Fiat's brand Alfa Romeo registrations fell 14.06 pct to 5,222, with market share falling to 2.54 pct, from 3.24 pct, it said.
Fiat's brand Lancia registrations rose 16.20 pct to 9,262, a market share of 4.51 pct, against 4.25, it said.
This gives an overall Fiat market share of 32.25 pct, against 30.85 in April 2006.
In other manufacturer data, the ministry said Ford new car registrations rose 15,84 pct to 17,066, or a market share of 8.31 pct, against 7.86.
General Motors brand Opel registrations were 14,106, up 10.05 pct, or a market share of 6.87 pct, against 6.84, it said.
Renault registrations were down 13.31 pct to 11,863, or a market share of 5.77 pct, against 7.30, it said.
Volkswagen registrations rose 11.38 pct to 11,770, or a market share of 5.73 pct, against 5.64, it said.
