The Community Advisory Board (CAB) of American Seafoods Company, one of the nation's largest seafood processors, today announced that it is accepting applications for its Alaska community grant program. The deadline to submit an application is Nov. 21.
The CAB community grant program awards $75,000 annually to community projects throughout rural Alaska. In December, the CAB will allocate a total of $30,000 to various community projects that tackle issues such as hunger, housing, safety, education, research, natural resources and cultural activities.
In February, the CAB program awarded $29,000 in grants to a variety of programs, including Senior Citizens of Kodiak, Inc. ($1,500); Native Village of Kwinhagak ($3,000); Unalaska Senior Citizens ($2,500); and Bristol Bay Native Association Regional Food Bank ($3,000).
"We appreciate the support provided by American Seafoods and their CAB grant program," said Nick Timurphy, Coordinator of Bristol Bay Native Association Regional Food Bank. "The grant will help us greatly toward our goal of providing the food and materials needed by the sixteen different villages we serve."
The CAB evaluates each proposal using the following criteria: the need in the community, project benefits, the number of people that will benefit from the program, who the award is intended for, and the ability to garner additional funding.
Since 1997, the CAB has granted more than $600,000 to organizations and programs in rural Alaska. CAB grant recipients will be chosen at the CAB's meeting on Dec. 4 in Anchorage, Alaska.
"At American Seafoods, we're glad that we can help make a difference for communities in need," said Inge Andreassen, president of American Seafoods Company. "The Community Advisory Board's grant program is a great way to reward those organizations who contribute to improving their communities."
Applications for the grant program are available online at www.americanseafoods.com, or by contacting Kim Lynch at kim.lynch@americanseafoods.com or 206-256-2659. Completed applications should be returned to Lynch at American Seafoods using email, fax at 206-448-0202, or postal mail at 2025 1st Ave, Ste 900, Seattle, WA, 98121.
