Xirrus Covered More Area and Students with 75% Fewer Devices, Giving Lewis-Palmer School District a Better and Cheaper Wi-Fi Solution Than Thin Access Points
Xirrus®, the Wi-Fi "Power-Play" that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, and throughput in the industry, announced today the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays at Lewis-Palmer School District #38 located in Monument, Colorado. The Lewis-Palmer School District is situated at the north end of El Paso County, north of the United States Air Force Academy. The school district services over 5,800 students across over 10 campuses, including the district offices. With a graduation rate of 98.5% and approximately 85% of their students continuing on to college, Lewis-Palmer School District ranks among the highest in the state of Colorado.
Talking about their deployment of Wi-Fi across the school district’s campuses, Chris Mack, the IT administrator for Lewis-Palmer School District, said, “We were building a new high school and as part of the architectural drawings [we] spec’d out a predictive placement for a thin access point architecture - it was going to be roughly 60 access points in the building, which seemed a little tough to manage and it was going also to be very expensive.”
Chris continued, “My Xirrus sales rep called me very soon to us closing on the other model. He came in and brought in a [Wi-Fi Array] unit and explained it to us. To put it simply, Xirrus was going to be better, going to be fast, give us more bandwidth, and the pricing we were able to get was better - it was a no brainer for us at the time plus it was managing 18 [Wi-Fi Array] units as compared to over 60 [thin access points].”
Speaking about the free services offered by Xirrus, Chris said, “The site survey was phenomenal, I couldn’t believe how fast we got it done. The only thing that surpassed the site survey was the installation - we did a very large high school, 19 units in half-a-day -- they [Wi-Fi Arrays] were online in half-a-day, it was very nice, it was very quickly done!”

About Xirrus
Xirrus, the only Wi-Fi “Power-Play,” manufacturers the Wi-Fi Array® architecture that displaces both overlay Wi-Fi offerings and switched Ethernet to the desktop. The Wi-Fi Array integrates 4, 8, 12, 16, or 24 802.11abg+n radios coupled to a high-gain directional antenna system into a single device along with an onboard multi-gigabit switch, Wi-Fi controller, firewall, dedicated Wi-Fi threat sensor, and an embedded spectrum analyzer. The Wi-Fi Array provides more than enough bandwidth, security, and control to replace switched Ethernet to the desktop as the primary network connection. The Xirrus Wi-Fi Array delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, throughput, and user density on a per device and per system basis than anything else available on the market today - resulting in a solution that uses 75% fewer devices, cabling, switch ports, power, space, and installation time compared with any other offering.
