UPDATE 1-Turkish regulator probes Turkcell over wiretap

ISTANBUL, April 21 (Reuters) - Turkey's telecoms regulator said in a statement on its website on Wednesday it would open an initial probe into Turkcell to see whether it had violated personal privacy laws in an alleged wire-tapping case.

Turkcell, Turkey's largest mobile operator, was not immediately available for comment.

Turkish media recently exposed an alleged wire-tapping ring, in which Turkcell employees were reportedly involved in supplying information.

Turkcell Chief Executive Sureyya Ciliv said in reaction to the intial reports it was not legally or technically possible for Turkcell employees to have acted in this way.
