Medicity client Central Florida Medical Affiliates (CFMA) announced that it has begun aggregating clinical data from different community sources using Medicity's Clinical Integration Platform. The 1200-physician association in mid-Florida receives electronic patient data from sources in the community”including a national laboratory, local hospitals, and an imaging center”then redistributes the data to its membership according to their delivery preferences. The Clinical Integration Platform includes a web-native viewing application accessible from any Internet-connected computer and the ability to route clinical results directly to an office printer or fax machine.
For many CFMA members, the ability to choose the EMR that will receive the data is crucial. "CFMA struggled with the problem of selecting an EMR that would be suitable for all its constituent practices, explains CFMA chief executive Robert Alexander. Rather than make unpopular compromises, this Independent Physician Association (IPA) chose a strategy that allows practices to receive electronic clinical data and still select their own EMR.
"This strategy leaves our members free to choose EMR software appropriate for their practice, Alexander continues, "and it gives them options for connecting to a longitudinal record of electronic patient data garnered from provider organizations throughout the community. None of this data would be available to them conveniently without the clinical integration platform Medicity has implemented for us.
