With the start of the Qantas A380 service scheduled for October 20, 2008, Qantas is making terminal changes to more efficiently accommodate passengers flying into and out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Qantas currently operates out of Terminals 3 and 4, and Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).
Effective October 1, 2008, Qantas arrival and departure operations will be rearranged in preparation for the arrival of the new A380 aircraft.
All Qantas A380 services will be operated from TBIT, which has undergone major enhancements in anticipation of the first arrival of very large aircraft like the A380. While other Qantas flights will be affected by the terminal changes, the code share services to Fiji, Mexico and Tahiti will remain unaffected.
"As the first airline to bring the A380 to Los Angeles International Airport, we have carefully reviewed our entire operational requirements and made the necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth transition for our passengers," said Wally R. Mariani, Qantas Airways senior executive vice president, The Americas and Pacific.
The following terminal adjustments are effective October 1, 2008:
LAX TBIT Departures/Arrivals
- Departures - All Qantas non-stop flights to Sydney, Melbourne (QF 94) and New York (QF 107)
- Arrivals - All Qantas non-stop flights from Sydney, Melbourne (QF 93) and New York (QF 107)
LAX Terminal 4 Departures/Arrivals
- Departures - All Qantas flights to Brisbane (QF 16/176) and Auckland/Melbourne (QF 26)
- Arrivals - All Qantas flights from Brisbane (QF 15/175) and Auckland/Melbourne (QF 25)
Inter-terminal Transfers
Qantas passengers arriving at LAX Terminal 4, who are traveling to Sydney or Melbourne or New York, can easily and conveniently transfer to TBIT by way of a complimentary dedicated shuttle service departing from Gate 44. The shuttle is for same day Qantas connecting passengers and operates daily from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, eliminating the need for repeat security screening.
For other connections, an inter-terminal bus provides free transportation between all LAX terminals on a regular basis, which can be accessed from the center island on the Arrivals level from all terminals.
- American Airlines connections depart from Terminal 4;
- Alaska or Horizon connections depart from Terminal 3; and
- Qantas code share flights on Mexicana to Mexico, Air Pacific to Fiji and Air Tahiti Nui to Tahiti all depart from TBIT
