Think Unlimited Commits to Improving Education and Empowering Youth in Jordan at 2012 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting

NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Think Unlimited, a nonprofit organization working to improve education and empower youth in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, announced its commitment to expand its program training Jordanian teachers and improving quality education. The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action, announced at the 2012 CGI Annual Meeting, will train 168 Jordanian public school teachers to implement ongoing afterschool interventions that build achievement motivation, critical thinking skills, and creativity in high school students.

Think Unlimited's commitment will include the implementation of a 12-week afterschool program called "Brain Builders," where students will learn and practice core cognitive skills including: acquiring information, organizing information, reasoning, strategy, decision making, opinion formation, perspective taking, and creativity.

"Think Unlimited aims to equip and empower a rising generation of Arab youth to become proactive citizens, social entrepreneurs, and change-makers in their home communities, their nations, and the world," said Shaylyn Romney Garrett, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director, Think Unlimited. "I'm privileged to attend this year's CGI Annual Meeting and look forward to developing relationships and connections to help advance quality, skills-based education in Jordan and across the Middle East."

Founded in 2011 by returned Peace Corps Volunteers Shaylyn Romney Garrett and her husband, James Garrett, Think Unlimited is an NGO working to advance a more positive form of Western engagement in the Arab world. In 2011 the Garretts were the only non-Arab speakers at Jordan's first TEDx event on Education, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship, and in 2012, they were finalists for the Echoing Green Social Entrepreneurship Fellowship. Think Unlimited's groundbreaking work teaching critical thinking in Arab public schools was also recently featured by New York Times columnist, Thomas Friedman.
