Rep. Fattah Calls on President Obama to Declassify and Release Images on Benghazi Consulate Attack

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA-02) today wrote to the White House calling on President Obama to declassify and release video images related to the attack on the U.S. Consulate at Benghazi, Libya, so that the public will have a full account of events that led to the killing of four Americans and to the subsequent investigation of the attack.

"Declassifying and releasing this additional information will help the American public to make an informed determination for themselves. Unfortunately, they are currently being bombarded by a purposeful misrepresentation of the events. We must end the confusion and finger pointing surrounding the tragic circumstances in Benghazi," Fattah wrote in an open letter to the President.

November 16, 2012

Dear Mr. President:

In light of the severity and significance of the attacks in Benghazi that resulted in the loss of four American lives -- and the subsequent politicizing of those events -- I ask that you declassify and release surveillance video, or any other information, that will put the attack, aftermath and investigation in the proper context.

Releasing video surveillance footage will help the American public to judge what transpired. Members of Congress have had the opportunity to review information which demonstrates that Administration officials acted strategically to benefit our nation's security and I believe additional information would benefit all Americans.

Declassifying and releasing this additional information will help the American public to make an informed determination for themselves.Unfortunately, they are currently being bombarded by a purposeful misrepresentation of the events. We must end the confusion and finger pointing surrounding the tragic circumstances in Benghazi.

Very truly yours,

Chaka Fattah
Member of Congress
