FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (AFX) - Hyundai Motor America said Tuesday its U.S. auto sales fell 12.6 percent in September versus the same month of 2005, due to limited availability of its Accent and Elantra cars.
The Korea-based automaker said September auto sales declined to 33,384 units from 38,214 in September 2005. The company said plant slowdowns in Korea this summer and strong worldwide demand contributed to a supply shortfall.
Among the few models posting sales gains were the Santa Fe sport utility vehicle, up to 6,216 vehicles from 4,095, and the Azera sedan, up to 1,985 from 1,227.
Adjusted for one more selling day in this year's September, sales fell 16 percent.
Year to date, Hyundai said sales are up 2.9 percent to 359,259 units from 349,195. Adjusted sales are up 2.5 percent.
