LONDON (AFX) - Qualcomm Inc filed additional GSM patent infringement lawsuits against Nokia in the US yesterday relating to Nokia's GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile phones.
The company said the new lawsuits generally relate to the downloading of applications and other digital content over a GPRS/EDGE wireless data network and to speech encoders used in certain models of GSM mobile phones.
Qualcomm said the lawsuits are part of a worldwide effort to prevent Nokia from using its patents without paying royalties. It is seeking injunctive relief against future sales and damages related to phones already sold.
Qualcomm has previously filed two other patent infringement lawsuits against Nokia's GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile phones in the US, while there are similar cases pending in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and China. newsdesk@afxnews.com ms1 COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2007.
