'I do not stand for a breakup but for a successful development of the company over the longer term,' Willi Berchtold was quoted by Germany's Der Spiegel as saying.
Hermes has said it wants Berchtold to chair the board in order to change the management culture at the troubled chipmaker, triggering a conflict with Kley who would like long-serving board member Klaus Wucherer to replace him.
Berchtold is finance chief of Germany's third largest car parts supplier, ZF Friedrichshafen.
