Japan Energy, the refining unit of Nippon Mining Holdings Inc , plans to refine 4.25 million kilolitres (294,000 barrels per day) of crude oil including condensate in the second quarter, a company spokesman said.
For the January-March period, Japan Energy estimated its crude refining volume at 5.52 million kl, including condensate, up 6 percent from a year earlier and up slightly from its initial plan of 5.49 million kl.
Nippon Mining and Japan's top refiner Nippon Oil Corp will set up a joint holding company JX Holdings Inc on April 1. They plan to merge their businesses into three core units -- refining and sales, oil exploration, and metals -- on July 1.
