LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Virgin Atlantic flew a Boeing Co 747 jumbo jet on biofuel from London Heathrow airport to Amsterdam, which Virgin said made it the first airline in the world to fly on renewable fuel.
The biofuel was composed of babassu oil and coconut oil.
BBC News said environmentalists labelled it as a stunt.
Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic president Richard Branson today said multi-national businesses are likely to move their headquarters away from London if a proposed third runway at Heathrow isn't approved by the government.
A consultation by the UK government -- called 'Adding Capacity at Heathrow Airport' -- closes on Wednesday. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.com vs COPYRIGHT Copyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
