PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of physician information technology, today announced that it has further expanded both the range of PatientKeeper applications and handheld devices that run its popular software used by nearly 24,000 physicians at more than 400 hospitals to streamline and improve their daily workflow.
PatientKeeper Mobile Clinical Results, which provides physicians with "anytime, anywhere" access to their patients' medical records, now supports the Google Android operating system, which runs on devices including Droid and Incredible. PatientKeeper Mobile Clinical Results already runs on BlackBerry, Apple iPhone and iPad.
In addition, PatientKeeper Charge Capture, an application that enables physicians to accurately record their patient charges, now supports BlackBerry, Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
PatientKeeper expects the new offerings to accelerate its industry-leading physician adoption rate for mobile technology. In the third quarter of 2010 alone, PatientKeeper saw a 16 percent increase in use of its mobile solutions.
PatientKeeper's leadership in mobile physician applications was underscored last week when the company received the "Best Innovation in Mobile Health Technology for Patient Safety" award at the Mobile Health Expo 2010 in Las Vegas for the mobile capabilities of its PatientKeeper CPOE™ product. Adoption of this technology can help hospitals achieve federal "Meaningful Use" benchmarks, which is required to qualify for ARRA/HITECH stimulus funds.
PatientKeeper's widespread success comes as more doctors have adopted smartphone technology over the past decade. According to a report published by Manhattan Research, use of smartphones by physicians in the U.S. more than doubled between 2001 and 2009 to 64 percent. That figure is expected to increase to 81 percent by 2012, according to the research report.
PatientKeeper leaders attribute the rapid rise in mobile device adoption to physicians who increasingly are seeking access to critical clinical and financial data anywhere and at any time.
"PatientKeeper knows how critical it is to meet physician demand by offering practical mobile applications that effectively streamline their workflow," said PatientKeeper CEO Paul Brient. "Our mission is to provide physicians with useful and usable technology that saves them time, improves their workflow and ultimately improves patient care. PatientKeeper is on the forefront of providing healthcare applications that quickly and easily are adopted by physicians and become essential tools for everyday use. We will continue to innovate to ensure that we remain mobility leaders in the healthcare IT industry."
PatientKeeper's mobile platform is a sophisticated framework that enables healthcare providers to aggregate data from multiple applications on the latest mobile platforms, including iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile operating systems.
