CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 01/15/11 -- Is there a better way for someone to start the New Year than to find out that their health insurance premiums will be paid for in 2011?
GoHealthInsurance.com, the nation's complete health insurance exchange, held a first-of-its-kind sweepstakes through its Facebook fan page to pay for one person's premiums up to $5,000 for the entire year. An eligible winner of the sweepstakes must have already obtained an active health insurance policy or have purchased coverage by the drawing date. The winner was not required to purchase a policy through GoHealthInsurance.com or any affiliate.
The recipient of the grand prize of the GoHealth Free Insurance Sweepstakes, James Christopher "Chris" Harrell of Georgia, was awarded a one-time payment for his health insurance premiums for the coming year.
"I count [winning the sweepstakes] as a blessing, at the end of the year -- especially around Christmas time," said Chris in a phone interview. "I have never really won anything this big before. It's such a help to my family and me personally."
Consumers from across the country entered the contest, hoping to find financial relief during rocky times in the health insurance industry as it prepares for all the changes with health care reform.
There are currently over 40 million uninsured Americans, many of which are young people who either can't afford coverage or don't believe they need it. Chris is 25 years old, but understands the need for a health insurance plan and advises others his age to stay covered even if it means cutting back on recreational expenses.
"You never know when that big accident is going to happen when you just need [health coverage]. You may have to take out that extra Friday night party to pay for your health insurance," explained Chris.
GoHealthInsurance.com is the most complete health plan comparison resource online and has helped more than 2 million Americans obtain coverage. Consumers use the GoHealthInsurance.com platform to research, compare, and purchase coverage from the nation's top insurance companies using online technology, by phone, and through a network of trusted advisors.
