LEVERKUSEN (dpa-AFX) - Bayer CropScience, an unit of German conglomerate Bayer AG (BYR.L, BAYRY.PK, BAYZF.PK), and Targenomix GmbH, Potsdam, a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology, have signed a five-year research collaboration agreement to develop and apply systems biology approaches to identify metabolic and molecular processes in plants. The company said the insights derived from the collaboration would be applied to identify and explore novel small molecules as well as trait technologies, with the aim of developing innovative crop protection and plant health solutions.
Axel Trautwein, Head of Chemical Crop Protection Research at Bayer CropScience, noted that the partnership between Bayer CropScience and Targenomix would bring together leading scientists who would leverage their combined knowledge to elucidate some of the secrets of plant biology.
In the beginning, 12 scientists under the scientific lead of Professor Willmitzer who would act as a consultant for the program, would work on this collaboration at Targenomix. Also, it is planned to further extend the platform during the timeframe of the collaboration.
