Their Excellencies to Host a Fall Celebration at the Citadelle of Quebec

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/30/14 -- As part of the festivities marking the 100th anniversary of the Royal 22e Regiment (R22eR), Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston invite the public to join them at the Citadelle of Quebec for the third annual Fall Celebration, Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We are delighted to welcome visitors of all ages to the Citadelle for the third consecutive year for the popular Fall Celebration," said the Governor General. "This event will also be an opportunity for us to celebrate the Royal 22e Regiment's 100-year history through a variety of original activities and to rediscover the beauty and charm of the Citadelle."

A variety of outdoor kiosks, including a field kitchen, will allow visitors to meet members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and to discover various aspects of military life. Beating the Retreat ceremonies will be held throughout the day and, at about 11:15 a.m., the SkyHawks, the CAF parachute team, will perform a jump (weather permitting). Static helicopters will be on display, and adventurers young and old will have the opportunity to take part in zip lining and repelling activities. They will also be able to try on the R22eR's famous red coat and bearskin hat, and take a photo. Moreover, people will have the chance to meet Batisse, the R22eR's regimental goat, and to visit the new Musee Royal 22e Regiment, which recounts the regiment's history over the past 100 years.

Inside the Governor General's Residence, visitors will be able to taste old-fashioned baked beans made by the official residence chefs using an ancient recipe, and learn some of the finer point of dining etiquette and the art of table setting. They will also be able to learn more about the Canadian Honours System and about Canadians who have been recognized for their extraordinary achievements. Moreover, representatives from the Centre de ressources familles-militaires de Valcartier will be on site, as well as the Canadian Heraldic Authority who will display several coats of arms and other colourful emblems.
