Researchers in France have developed very-low-bandgap thermophotovoltaic (TPV) cells featuring a barrier layer designed to suppress dark current. TPV, not to be confused with photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technology, converts infrared (IR) radiation from heat sources directly into electricity using PV cells.
