NEW YORK (AFX) -- Ameritrade Holding Corp. said Thursday it's expanding premium services to more of its clients in the latest move among active online firms to attract and keep customers. Ameritrade said it's expanding its active trader program to include clients who make an average five trades per month over a three-month period. Benefits to clients meeting those criteria include no service fees, free NASDAQ Level II quotes and free streaming news. The company also said it's lowering its per-contract fee on options trades to 75 cents from $1.50. All the changes take effect at the end of March. Ameritrade shares traded at $11.75 on Instinet Thursday morning, up from their $11.02 Thursday close on the Nasdaq. Earlier this month, Ameritrade rival E-Trade Financial Corp. cut some of its prices in an ongoing battle for online customers. That move followed similar cuts by Ameritrade, Fidelity and Schwab in recent months. This story was supplied by MarketWatch. For further information see www.marketwatch.com.
