MADRID (AFX) - The Spanish government has said that the new free-to-air television channel La Sexta must share the rights to broadcast the World Cup if it cannot guarantee full national coverage, Expansion reported, citing Industry Minister Jose Montilla.
According to Spanish regulations, competitions of 'national interest' must be broadcast live, free and throughout the whole country, while La Sexta claims that it will reach only 80 pct of Spain by June 1.
Other free-to-air channels run by Antena 3 de Television SA and Gestevision Telecinco SA have coverage which exceed 95 pct coverage of the country, Expansion noted. afxmadrid@afxnews.com ped/jdy/joy COPYRIGHT Copyright AFX News Limited 2005.
