Hemsö has been awarded the tender to develop, construct, lease and operate a new vocational school for metalworking and building services engineering (HVAC) in Cologne, Germany. The project comprises a modern educational facility including workshops, a sports hall and outdoor areas. It will be delivered under a 25-year lease agreement with the City of Cologne as tenant, with a one-time tenant extension option of five years. The total investment amounts to approximately EUR 130 million.
The new vocational school will be built on a 25,000 sqm site in the Porz district of Cologne. The location benefits from excellent public transport connections and provides ideal conditions for a modern educational environment.
The new building will replace the existing school and provide modern teaching and learning facilities for approximately 1,300 students and staff. Hemsö will develop, own and manage the property as a long-term owner. The project will be delivered in collaboration with an experienced team of project partners.
"The award of the contract for the new vocational school in Cologne-Porz reinforces our long-term commitment to educational properties in Germany," says Jens Nagel, Head of German Business at Hemsö. "Together with our partners, we have developed a solution that is economically sustainable, functional and designed to meet the City's long-term needs. We look forward to delivering this important educational project and creating a modern learning environment for future generations."
The project further strengthens Hemsö's presence in Cologne, where the company is already developing a municipal secondary school campus together with Austrian Real Estate (ARE), scheduled for completion in 2028.
The vocational school is expected to be handed over to the City of Cologne in time for the start of the 2031/32 academic year.
