CHICAGO (dpa-AFX) - The Boeing Company (BA), the aerospace and defense major, Wednesday announced that it has secured an order of eight 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters from the African carrier Ethiopian Airlines to expand its cargo fleet.
The financial details of the order have not been divulged.
The order is Ethiopian Airlines' second for the 777X airplane family, building on its purchase of eight 777-9 passenger jets.
The 777-8F has a maximum structural payload of 118 tons and is offering the highest payload and range capability to open new markets while reducing fuel use as well as delivering the lowest operating cost per ton of any freighter, according to Boeing.
Currently, the African airline operates more than 70 cargo markets across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America with a fleet of twelve 777 freighters, two 767 freighters and four 737-800SF airplanes.
On Wednesday, Boeing shares closed at $186.05, down 0.87% on the new York Stock Exchange.
