TOKYO (dpa-AFX) - Japan's household spending continued to decline in August, data published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications showed Friday.
Household spending decreased 3.1 percent year-on-year in August, slower than the 3.6 percent drop in July. Spending has been falling since December 2025.
Economists had forecast spending to fall again by 3.6 percent in August.
The only component of household spending that did not fall was transportation and communication, which was up 0.2 percent.
On a monthly basis, household spending grew only 0.1 percent after rising 0.5 percent in the previous month.
