This Day In History:
On this day in 1826, anatomist Carl Gegenbaur was born. He was an early proponent of natural selection, and supported Darwin's theory of organic evolution by citing examples of homology in various animal organs. By identifying structural similarities based on common functionalities in anima organs, Gegenbaur and his contemporaries offered proof evolving species over centuries. In his text, Elements of Comparative Anatomy, he pointed out - 'The most important part of the business of comparative anatomy is to find indications of genetic connections in the organization of the animal body.'
