INDIANAPOLIS (dpa-AFX) - Wednesday. Eli Lilly and Company (LLY) reported detailed results from the Phase 3 ACHIEVE-4 trial showing that Foundayo (orforglipron) demonstrated cardiovascular safety alongside sustained A1C reduction and weight loss in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity or overweight at increased cardiovascular risk.
In the study, Foundayo met its primary objective of demonstrating non-inferiority of cardiovascular safety compared with insulin glargine. Participants experienced a 16% lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE-4) and a 23% lower risk of MACE-3 events compared with insulin glargine.
Foundayo (orforglipron) is an FDA-approved oral GLP-1 therapy for chronic weight management and is being studied for additional cardiometabolic indications, including type 2 diabetes.
The results were presented at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and published in The Lancet.
LLY closed Wednesday's trading at $1,157.08, down 2.33%. In overnight trading, the stock is at $1,163.12, up 0.52%.
