WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Sentiment in crypto markets improved as markets reacted to hints of a U.S.-Iran peace deal. The plunge in crude oil prices that followed, the inflows to U.S.-listed Bitcoin Spot ETF products, as well as weak labor market data from the U.S. helped lift crypto market sentiment.
Both the crude oil benchmarks have declined more than 4 percent, dragging down bond yields and thereby the opportunity cost of holding cryptocurrencies.
The positive sentiment in Wall Street also supported sentiment in the cryptocurrency market. With the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index surging almost 1.6 percent, cryptocurrencies have gained around quarter percent in the past 24 hours. Bitcoin has touched a 24-hour high of $64,163 amidst renewed diplomatic efforts to ease U.S.-Iran tensions.
The CMC Crypto Fear and Greed Index that tracks sentiment in the crypto market shows a reading of 36 versus 35 a day earlier.
Anxiety lingered amidst Coldcard wallet maker's message urging users to move bitcoin as the exploit was still in progress.
Data from Coinglass indicates aggregate liquidations of $157 million during the past 24 hours. While long positions liquidated account for $56 million, short positions liquidated add up to $101 million.
Markets also reacted to the release of jobs data from the U.S. on Tuesday morning that showed job openings decreasing to 7.36 million in June from a revised 7.54 million in the previous month. Markets had anticipated a level of 7.40 million.
Amidst the decline in job openings as well as the plunge in crude oil prices, rate hike expectations from the Fed have also reduced. According to the CME FedWatch tool that tracks the expectations of interest rate traders, the likelihood of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve in September has fallen to 58.9 percent. It was 67.2 percent a day earlier.
