The U.S. Labor Board's general counsel issued a complaint against Hudson News at San Jose International Airport. The complaint alleges Hudson News, a subsidiary of global duty free retailer, Dufry AG, interfered with its employees' rights to organize a union and bargain a union contract at the airport.
The National Labor Relations Board's general counsel issued the complaint against Hudson News for allegedly interrogating workers about their union activities and support and firing a worker because of her union activity. The complaint comes amidst negotiations for a first collective bargaining agreement with Hudson News at San Jose.
Among the allegations in the complaint, the NLRB's General Counsel alleged that Hudson News fired Vanessa Anchondo because of her union activity. "The complaint confirms the disrespect we've seen at Hudson News in San Jose," said Ms. Anchondo. "My coworkers and I are pleased with the complaint, but we're still a long way away from what we want most, a good contract and the respect we deserve."
UNITE HERE Local 19 is the union for San Jose hospitality workers at the airport and area hotels and restaurants.
